Certificate II in Health Support Services.
National Code: HLT21207
Certificate II in Health Support Services covers workers who provide support for the effective functioning of Health Services. These workers do not provide direct care assistance functions such as assisting other staff with the care of clients. This an entry level qualification and is suited to Australian Apprenticeship pathways.
The Core units for this Course offer general skills and knowledge requirements, with electives directing the stream of study to reflect the work activities of applicant, the areas offered are:

Admission Criteria
- An ability to analyse, process and undertake required knowledge and skills of course
- Willingness to engage in group activities
- Recognised prior learning will be considered on the merits of application as underpinned by organisational policy and procedures (provided on application)
- Credit Transfer is provided for academic achievements from all other Registered Training Organisations.
- Employed in an agency which can provide the experience to meet course competencies
- Access and equity is applied to all training acceptance
- People with disabilities are encouraged to apply
Duration of Course
This course is run over 6 months.
Introduction to course concept
This conceptual framework of this curriculum reflects the belief that the integration of classroom activities, group networking and on the job application promotes and further develops the skills of this course. The course is delivered in a systematic style which takes the participants through the learning steps which promotes comprehension and application of the principle of Health Services in the areas of:
- Food Services
Assessments
All assessment for the course are competency orientated and provide flexibility to meet the student’s learning needs and course requirements.
The assessments will include:
- Written
- Demonstration
- Questions
- Flexible learning packages
(A detailed training plan and assessments for each unit of the course will be negotiated with you, prior to commencement of the Certificate II in Health Support Services.
Course Requirements
This course is delivered by integrating off the job theory with on the job application.
12 competency units are required for award of this qualification, including:
- 4 compulsory units
- 8 elective units
- A maximum of 2 competency units may be selected from other relevant Training Package units available at Certificate II (or higher)

HLTIN301A – Comply with infection control policies and procedures in health work
HLTOHS200A – Participate in OHS processes
BSBCMN204A – Work effectively with others
Elective units
Electives are to be selected in line with the specified Packaging Rules. Workplaces may package electives to reflect the functions of workers. To facilitate the selection of electives, relevant competency units have been grouped as follows:

HLTFS203B Apply cook-freeze processes
HLTFS204B Provide ward or unit based food preparation and distribution services
HLTFS205B Perform kitchenware washing

HLTFS208B Transport food
HLTHSE204B Follow safe manual handling practices
THHBKA04B Clean and maintain kitchen premises
Course Fees
Fee for Service : $2,000.00 spread over a 6 month period

Traineeship
A limited number of Victorian Government Funded Positions available

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) can be applied for (see policy)
RPL is an assessment process that involves re-assessment of previously gained experience relevant to the qualification. If RPL is granted, fees are adjusted accordingly .
Credit Transfer
