Certificate III in Aged Care is designed to provide the skills
necessary to work in aged care in a range of facilities and
services. It is suitable for unqualified people already working
in the industry or people new to the industry. It is geared
towards workers who carry out activities related to maintenance of an
individuals personal care or other activities and who work within
clearly defined service plans under direct or regular supervision.
Career Opportunities
Successful completion of the course may lead to employment in
occupations such as carer, personal care assistant/worker, home care
assistant, nursing assistant, community care/support worker, in home
respite worker.
Entry Requirements
Students admission & selection criteria’s
- Aged over 18 years of age
- Applicants successfully complete a numeracy and literacy test
- Recognised prior learning will be considered on the merits of application as underpinned by organisational policy an procedures (provided on request)
- Credit transfer is provided for academic achievements from other Registered Training Organisations
- Access and equity applies for acceptance into training

Duration and Delivery
This course is offered in traineeship mode of delivery ( see traineeships) over a 12 month period.
Structure of Course
14 units must be selected for this qualification including:
• 10 compulsory units
• 4 elective units
A wide range of elective units is available and may include:
- Relevant electives listed below the compulsory units for this qualification – these
electives have been grouped to facilitate selection
- Units of competency to address workplace requirements and packaged at the level of
this qualification or higher in Community Services and/or Health Training Packages
- Where appropriate, to address workplace requirements, units of competency packaged
at this level or higher in other relevant Training Packages

CHCAC318A - Work effectively with older people
CHCAC319A - Provide support to people living with dementia
CHCCS411A - Work effectively in the community sector
CHCICS301A - Provide support to meet personal care needs
CHCICS302A - Participate in the implementation of individualised plans
CHCICS303A - Support individual health and emotional well being
CHCOHS312A - Follow safety procedures for direct care work
CHCPA301B - Deliver care services using a palliative approach
HLTAP301A - Recognise healthy body systems in a health care context

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) can be applied for (see policy)
RPL is an assessment process that involves re-assessment of previously gained experience relevant to the qualification. If RPL is granted, fees are adjusted accordingly.
Credit Transfer
